LAWS Workplace Mentoring Program

LAWS-Blakes Mentoring Program

Studies show that mentoring programs can have a transformative impact on young people. Spending time with supportive adults can help students build the self-confidence and sense of purpose required to succeed in school.

The LAWS Program partners with Blake Cassels & Graydon and Torys to offer LAWS students an opportunity to develop positive connections with lawyers at these two partner firms. Mentors and mentees meet together as a large group on several occasions at the firm. Group events include team-building exercises and educational workshops. Mentors and mentees also meet individually to discuss goal setting, accessing post-secondary education, and social networking.

The LAWS Workplace Mentoring Program aims to benefit LAWS students by helping them to develop critical job-related and social skills, enhance their self-confidence and optimism about the future, and explore their interest in the law and the legal profession. The program also exposes students to positive role models and a professional work environment.

During the 2007-8 pilot year, 26 lawyers and 25 students participated.  Currently over forty Central Tech and Harbord Collegiate students participate in the program.
